Ambulance and First Aid Service

Currently the branch has 2 ambulances, a Ford transit ambulance and a Volkswagen ambulance. Both ambulances come fully equipped with the latest equipment. The Volkswagen being fully air-conditioned is usually used for patient transport whereas the ford ambulance is used to provide emergency coverage during public events. Equipment carried in the ambulances included automated external defibrillators, ventilators, various splints, fixed and portable oxygen delivery systems, orthopedic vacuum mattress, full line of resuscitation equipment etc.

The volunteers that operate the ambulance service are trained to the level of EMTB (paramedic basic) or first responders. Their qualification follows the latest standards in prehospital emergency care.

We do offer regular patient transports to private and governmental clinics in Gozo and Malta. Usually this is done against a nominal fee to cover the expenses, however sometimes the fee is waived in certain situations such as when the patient comes from a poor economic background .

The latest addition to the Malta Red Cross Gozo branch is a fully equipped emergency response vehicle. RGV1 as it is known by its call sign proudly went to work when the now regular, irregular immigrants landed on our shores.

RGV1 is an emergency response vehicle, by this it is meant, that should there ever be an emergency, RGV1 can go direct to the site with a medical team within minutes of the call, to asses the case in question, before the calling out of an ambulance.

RGV1, is a Ford fiesta that was bought over from the German Red Cross Köln Branch, can also be utilised in the transportation of blood, organs for transplants, as well as medicines to and from medical institutions. RGV1 was also be put into action at the CHOGM as a support vehicle with the department of health.

Currently the branch has a regular commitment with the gozo football association and the Gozo horse racing association.

Sometimes during public events besides providing an ambulance we also set up a clinic on site or a first aid post according to the need.
