On the 11th of August, I and another volunteer flew to Milan to help our Italian counterparts as part of an exchange project. In the following two weeks we gave assistance while on service in the city’s streets. Our main task was to conduct ambulance service, which concentrated mostly on transporting people of all ages from home to hospital and vice versa and from hospital to hospital. On a major scale these people were elders whom their families couldn’t give first aid support during the trips. The cases we faced were varied: from simple and calm tasks to life-threatening situations. Milan is divided into smaller regions with each region having its own branch. Overall we had a great experience since everybody gave us a warm welcome and learnt how to deal with drastic situations when needed.
