Youth Activities

Youth Members after the cleanup.

It was Saturday 11th August when the Malta Red Cross Gozo Branch organised a cleanup activity for the youths. This took place in the limits of Ghajnsielem between Fort Chambray and Lourdes Chapel. We managed to collect twelve big garbage bags, a large wash basin and a large tank all filled with all kinds of litter and remains after picnics. Amongst the garbage collected there was quite a big amount of beer cans and bottles, dangerous shards of glass from broken bottles, plastic bottles, packed food wrappers, large pieces of wood and steel, and other litter that can be easily avoided by disposing of it properly. In the future, the Gozo Branch has more cleanups planned for us youths, and we do our best to help keep Gozo tidy. It would be more convenient if everybody dispose of garbage responsibly. On Saturday 7th July, during a normal meeting, Carmel Micallef prepared foil cooking. Franco prepared the barbeque and in the meantime, Carmel gave us a lesson on how to prepare meals in foil. This meal is quite easy to prepare, needs few ingredients, healthy, and is good to eat. Potato and onion slices were to be put on a piece of foil, then the meat (in our case it was beef), once again potato and onion slices, then, a pinch of salt and some vegetable oil. This was wrapped twice in foil to prevent from burning. The meal will then be ready to be cooked in fire and it only between 20 to 30 minutes. This meal is conveniently used while camping… for various reasons. In the name of all the youths, I thank Carmel Micallef who is in charge of us youths because he works hard to make meetings interesting and makes sure that we take the utmost from every meeting.
