Malta Red Cross in Cambodia

Map of Cambodia

High Hopes Mission is a Malta Red Cross mission in Cambodia to bring back to Malta Lisa Gatt, 25, who is being cared for in a rural clinic in Cambodia where she underwent surgery. This happened after she was riding at the back of a motorcycle when an accident happened. She was then rushed to a clinic to undergo surgery for a broken thigh bone. She is now facing hefty medical and transportation bill as she didn't have a travel insurance. Her sister Lia Gatt was the first to launch an appeal for fund raising on Facebook. For anyone who would like to donate to pay for her medical expenses, which the family can't afford, can be made at the

The Malta Red Cross team of three paramedics left Malta last Saturday equipped with all equipment necessary to bring back Lisa safety. The team is make up of Mr Etienne Micallef, General Secretary of the Malta Red Cross Gozo Branch, Mr Natal Falzon, General Secretary of the Central Branch and Mr Audrick Plum, a Combat Medic at the Armed Forces of Malta.

Initially, there were some communication problems with Cambodia which halted the start of the mission but later on, with the help of the International Federation of Red Cross, things started to move on. They arrived in Thailand on Sunday afternoon and arrived in Cambodia today after a long overland journey in Land Rovers. The team will reach its destination to CT Clinic in Sihanoukville today with an IFRC vehicle and driver.

Further updates of the event will be communicated later on. You can also read the mission diary here.
